A few weeks ago, I wrote this in my journal, as I was unfolding a glimmer:
Something about planning glimmers is daring to speak your deepest desires of comfort, calm and wonder out loud. To be able to visualise it and know its benefits. To tap into what means magic means for ourselves, to feel deserving, to be able to make them happen.
This time, it’s about fog.
The magic of fog can’t be planned, but when I notice it on my weather app, I look wholeheartedly forward to it.
I grew up by a river and from our house on the top of a hill, and in the mornings, the fog ran atop the water, just like a cloud of wonder. I remember this memory coming to me years later, as I crossed Knippelsbro, a bridge that connects inner Copenhagen to Christianshavn, on the way to work one morning back in 2012. The harbour was completed with a soft, white cover. It made me stop, to reconnect with my childhood view, which I had forgotten.
Forwarding to the recent present, end of October to be precise, I saw that there was three consecutive days of fog coming. I feel a renewed joy at the thought of the house being surrounded by a cloud. When it came, I was a bit under the weather, but I packed myself up in a wooly jumper and ventured out to the road. I stood there taking it in, the mystical, calming, milky fog. I could see fifty meters down the road in each direction. It made me imagine I was an island, and I could create what came up next, along the road.
Lost in my thoughts for a moment, they started to slow down again, feeling hugged by the fog. Its calm and silence envolved me, and I felt happy and loved. Blissful, I returned inside and was comforted by the fact that nature has such a strong hold and magical touch over me.
As I notice the feelings connected to fog and mist, I found it the perfect time to start reading
’s new book, Chasing Fog: Finding Enchantment in a Cloud. An ode to this natural wonder, that makes us relive memories, makes us dream, and bring us calm.
