We talked about the fear of people finding your journal in my regular journal session this week. Feeling safe to open up in it is so important and is definitely a barrier to starting I think.
I recently wrote a line in a comment to someone that I then realized was a key way to express something that I often need to express in regards to the work that I do:
"When I use the term “mental health” I sometimes mean things with a diagnosis and symptoms but more often I just mean something akin to “how the challenges of life are affecting our thoughts and experiences.” And that, in turn, affects our creativity."
I stopped journaling for the exact same reason! It’s strange really because I’m very vulnerable when I write online where the entire internet has access to me, but the thought of someone stood holding open my physical notebook absolutely petrifies me. Isn’t it bizarre?
I loved this post though, and I’m really looking forward to this being a regular feature in my inbox 🥰
Yes, exactly! I also feel easier to be vulnerable here than if someone woulf open my journal *shivers*
I have been wondering if it’s because of the unpolishness and unedited, or maybe it feels like there is emotion attached to the pages as you write them? It’s so bizarre!
Thank you so much, Sophie, your feedback make me really happy 🥰
My moleskine journals have brought me so much joy for several decades! No rules in there... just a safe and joyous place to pour my self into. Journaling is amazing & I’m so happy that I found your substack... I’m looking forward to following along! Xoxo
Yes, exactly, like an outpour of ink. So very freeing! 🥰
I’m moving from Moleskine to another kind of notebook, which is a tab bit smaller, so I can carry it everywhere, as I feel the most comfy when it’s on me at all times. ☺️
Thank you so much for being here, Ellen, a pleasure to have you.
Well please share your new little gem of a notebook... I’m a sucker for all things paper & journal so please inspire me!! I just ordered a littler one zequenz brand ... never had one so this should be fun!!
I loved reading this ❤️🥰 thank you

I loved your reflections ✨
Oh, this makes me so happy, so kind of you 🥰 thank you Zoe 🤍
It really is, and a vital one at that. So good you are talking about it. I only realised it a few months ago ✨

It's so nice when the right words just show up.
That is a lovely and important way to look at it, a way to support your journey in this world. ✨
I’m so glad it resonated with you Kathryn. 🤍
So pleased you’ve started publishing these!
One of the last things I wrote in my journal was ‘I have my own back’ ✨
I’m so happy it came from your question on comfort. ✨🍂
Oh, that is so powerful, Sarah, and a beautiful reminder to ourselves. Even when no one has it, we ourselves do. 🤍

I am starting one called Stalogy, which looks like the Hobonichi Techo but without the calendar 🤍
Sounds wonderful!! Enjoy!!!
